Today was my first day back on the bike since Thanksgiving--I stayed at the farm for deer camp and then came down with a nasty cold. I've also become a bit more cautious of riding on ice--I'm sure I'm gonna need a hip replacement one of these days and I'd like to put it off as long as possible.
When I left home this morning at 6:45 am on my road bike, the pavement was fairly clear and dry--but by 9 am when I left my meeting at Battelle to head downtown, the snowstorm was in full swing and the pavement was a little treacherous. I made it to the office and was thrilled to see two other twowheelers in my building had braved the winter weather to bike to work. How about that!
That's my bike in front, still sporting some snow on the fender.
BTW, Battelle has some great indoor bike racks and other accoutrements for the many Battelle employees who bike to work. But as you can see below, they don't have bike racks at the main entrance for twowheeling visitors. Maybe they can add that to their 2011 capex budget?
Five days until the Winter Solstice, a date near and dear to twowheelers' hearts, when the days again begin to lengthen and we know it won't be long before we'll be back in our summer cycling clothes, enjoying the warmth of the much closer sun. Many twowheelers will be celebrating next Tueday after work at Barley's downtown at 5 pm. Please come and join us!

Actually, Doug, we are closest to the sun on January 3rd but it is winter because the northern hemisphere is leaning away. :-)

Oops, the January 3rd date was for 2007. Still it is sometime in early January when we are closest to the sun.

I don't know biking I'm afraid to fall from it. My brother teaches me one's but gave up later because I was not eager to be on my own. He would hold the bike while I'm cycling. He got tired and me either. Since then I admire group of bikers. That transportation really is environment friendly because it has no smoke. Interesting post.
