According to the Dispatch this morning, we only had 48% voter turnout for the recent election. I can't believe that a majority of the citizens of Ohio would not take the time to vote in such an important election during such a tumultuous period in our state and nation's history. I mentioned in my blog on election day that I had seen a t-shirt on the bike path with the admonition "Democracy is not a spectator sport!" Well, it appears that that's exactly what our democracy is becoming.
I'm worried that our great American democratic "experiment" is at grave risk. I'm afraid it's because we've become so disconnected from each other and because folks don't think they or their votes matter or maybe they're just tired and have stopped giving a damn. Whatever the reason, it ain't good.
What's the answer? I don't know. But we've got to find a way to reconnect and move forward together. TwoWheeling can help do this, but we need everyone to pitch in. Time is of the essence.

If folks could vote from their ipod or smartphone, maybe they wouldn't be inconvenienced, and percentages would be higher. Grrr.

I wonder if turn out would be higher if "neither" or "none of the above" were options. I wonder if turn out would be higher if candidates focused on their plans as opposed to mud slinging. I wonder if turn out would be higher if our political system was not a duopoly
Just wondering...
