Temperature was in the high 30s when I left home this morning, so I donned my balakava for the first time this season--a sure sign that winter's on the way. It was a beautiful ride in and I saw several friends on High Street riding along the sharrows--they've made a huge difference. The No. 31 flew by me near Lane Avenue and my friend, Jerry, was drafting 4 ft behind the bus. I got on my pedals and was soon next to Jerry in the jet stream. We passed the No. 31 at it's last stop and beat him downtown AGAIN.
As I started down the ramp into the bowels of the office building where my office is located I noticed great progress being made at the park formerly known as the City Center. Since many of you probably don't get downtown very often I've included photos.
2 By 2012 is gaining steam! We've got just over 30 companies signed up so far and hope to have 100 by the end of the year. We'll be working hard on education and training this winter so we can hit the ground "riding" come spring. We're looking for experienced bicycle commuters to volunteer to lead group rides to work at least 1-2 days per week from various locations around central Ohio. We will be providing training this winter for the" leaders of packs" to make sure they have the tools they need to do this. Our aim is to reach our goal-- 2% mode shift-- in 2011 (a year early) and then exceed our goal by a wide margin in 2012. We know this is a BHAG, but that's what keeps us juiced.
We could sure use your help. You can get involved by getting your company or organization to adopt 2 by 2012 and/or volunteering to be a ride leader (there will be lots of other volunteer opportunities, too!). Contact me at dmorgan@hahnlaw.com or Bryan Saums, our 2 By 2012 Program Leader at bryan@considerbiking.org to find out how you can help advance the pedaling revolution in CBus. Power to the Pedal!
