With this weather I haven't been able to bike much lately........I rode to work 2 days last week, but so far this week's been a bust!
So, I've been spending some time surfing the internet.....I'm amazed at what you can find there. Beth and I went to a presentation at our good friends' church last week and a fellow got up and talked about the pornography epidemic in the U.S. as a result of the easy accessibility enabled by the internet. "50% of the men here this evening are addicted to porn," he declared. I'm not one of the addicts, but I slouched down in my pew just the same.
The internet's a pandora's box, full of wonderful information, but also containing lots of risks if you don't know who you are or if you are lost or prone to wandering..........
But I want to focus on the GOOD things you can find on the internet. For example, last weekend I drove to Ann Arbor to watch my youngest son, Corey, run in "The Dual " against the Michigan wolverines. Corey's a walk-on for the OSU track team. He's a redshirt freshman and this was his first collegiate race. I was very proud of him as he finished 3rd in the 800 and helped OSU upset 17th ranked Michigan. Unfortunately his mother didn't get a chance to see him run.
When I got home from Ann Arbor, I spent a little time surfing collegiate track websites in the hope of learning a bit more about track. I never ran track and I'm still trying to learn everything I can so I don't embarrass Corey in front of his friends. I found a website, www.runnerspace.com, that has lots of interesting information about track. They even have videos of lots of races from the Olympic Trials and other big invitational meets. Imagine my surprise when I noticed a video entitled "The Dual--OSU v. Michigan 800m." Sure enough, as I clicked and watched the video, there Corey was. Not only did Beth get to see Corey's race on this video, we were able to email it to his sister at Miami and to his brother who is scuba diving in Bali. If you're interested, you can watch Corey's race at http://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?do=view&member_id=3990&video_id=8296.
Then, today...........our law office was closed due to the weather, so I was working from home. This afternoon, I shoveled the driveway and then came in and got on the computer. For some reason, I thought of Ireland. Beth and I will be spending 10 days there this coming summer with several of my Klatt Brother bandmates and my good friend, Parker MacDonell and we will be playing music in several pubs. I have been to Ireland twice before and absolutely love the natural beauty of the country and the friendly people there. I also love the smell of the peat that they burn in their fireplaces. As I surfed the web this afternoon, the thought crossed my mind, "I wonder if you can buy peat in the U.S. to burn in your fireplace." I quickly googled "burning peat" and 10 minutes later I had ordered 22 pounds of genuine Irish peat to burn in my fireplace.
The internet also permits us to keep tabs on (and live vicariously) our son, Brandon's, packpacking trip around the world. You can follow him, too, at www.wheresmorgan.com.
I'm sure you can get into lots of trouble on the internet, but so far for me the benefits have far outweighed the risks.
Stay warm on these winter days........we'll be twowheeling again soon!
