I Do Miss White Castle
There's not much I miss about commuting by automobile, but there is one thing..........White Castle. Back in the old days, when I drove a car to work, I'd usually swing by the White Castle drive-through at Kenny and Henderson to get a cup of coffee. I love White Castle coffee.
Today was one of the rare days that I needed to drive to work and, of course, I immediately headed for White Castle (out of roughly 240 work days in a year, I will bike to work approximately 200 days........if my friends see me on one of my rare "car days", they give me hell ). The drive-through was stacked up, so I parked and went in to get my coffee. As I walked up to the counter I could hear my favorite White Castle employee taking an order from the drive-through, "Welcome to Whhhhhite Castle, can I take your order?" "A medium black coffee, please." "That'll be 80 bucks, rock on around to the second window." Ah............it took me back.
Spring is always wonderful, especially after a long winter.........but on a bike it is TRULY GLORIOUS. As the spring bulbs emerge and the flowering trees and shrubs burst into bloom, our merry band of bikers shed their winter spandex and balakavas and don their shorts and lightweight jackets.......another sure sign of spring.
Despite the fact I drove TO work, I will be at Bill's feet at 5 for our Friday night ride home.....hope to see you there.
Doug,
I'll miss you guys on the ride home tonight - I'm leaving in a few minutes to go get some miles in while we have this beautiful weather. Tell the Friday night riders I say hello.
